Welcome back to my weekly Design Studio blog, where I'll be discussing a VR project targeted towards Ingenium's Digital Innovation lab!
This week, my team and I are coming off of a 1-week break from classes. It was a nice change of pace from the usual hecticness of juggling 4 courses, but once again, its grind time. Currently, the team is working towards a beta version of the Ingenium Virtual Escape Room project! My task specifically is to work on the first level's mechanics and puzzles, then decide how the users will interact with them. There are still many issues that I'm trying to solve such as feasibility of completing tasks, steep learning curve, and poor affordances of some interactable objects. Once a solidified version of the first level is complete, and the entire team is satisfied with it, we can move towards future levels!
Challenges: The biggest challenge that I've encountered this week was trying to conceptualize puzzles that incorporate Morse Code. Firstly, Morse Code in general is already a complex form of communication, even more so when trying to translate it into a digital medium, such as a VR escape room. Since Morse Code will be the primary form of communication between the two groups, I'm trying to simplify the inputting and decoding of Morse messages to prevent unjustifiable difficulty in the puzzles.
Successes: The biggest success this week was that we were able to organize and assign the tasks needed to complete the first escape room level. This is a huge step for us as we'll be able to individually work on our designated areas without accidentally overlapping each other. Though we'll still need to catch each other up on certain progress, we've pretty much created a process that will allow us to efficiently complete all the assets, programming and designs of the first level.
